Calexico

Calexico is a Tucson, Arizona-based Americana, Tex-Mex, indie rock band. Their musical style is influenced by traditional Latin sounds of mariachi, conjunto, cumbia, tejano, as well as country, jazz, and post-rock. The band has been described by some as “desert noir”, and is named for the border town of Calexico, California. With more than 20 years of experience and isolated from the focus of media attention they are known by their musical neatness and eclectic live shows. This combo have earned them the admiration of fans and critics around the world. We were asked to renew the communication strategy of the band and to develop the new conceptual proposal for their new world tour. The creative team worked on every detail in order to build a new imaginary that would expand the number of followers of Calexico and reposition it worldwide as a musical reference. Concept: Imaginary borders This concept is a result of the analysis of the musical identity of Calexico: a band of great trajectory that revolutionizes and adds layers of musical wealth thanks to the implementation of new sounds, rhythms and instruments. It’s a result of the crossing the political, arbitrary and temporary borders that divide the […]

The Hit

This project consists of the elaboration of a visual and esthetic universe for a perfume. As a starting point we had a sample of the aromatic liquid. The creative process started with brainstorming, where a concept and the tale for the fragrance were developed. Apart from the conceptual universe, a complete analysis has been carried out. The project contains the complex guidelines – the creative book. It has been elaborated for the professionals who will have to develop any type of visual parts for this perfume. We defined the naming, the form of consumption and the possible target. Packaging and bottle shape have also been designed. The development of the complete synthetic visual universe includes detailed indications of the tone and style to be used. The creative book contains the information about typography, color, textures and materials; it also includes requirements about casting, locations, lighting, details of the props and makeup. The moment of contempt I woke up scared. Falling, dead, disoriented, helpless and lost. Being a passive spectator of my own fall, terrified by the descent that seemed endless. Among flutters I fell, ruled by the faintest gust of wind that now seems to control my destiny. I woke up divided between the vertigo […]

Akira

The purpose of this project is creating an alternative version of the opening credits for the animated film Akira. Also it includes the document specifying, at a conceptual, aesthetic and narrative level, the different codes that make up the art direction of the new opening titles. This document is aimed at directing the specialists involved in the execution of the credits. Creative Concept At the argumental level, the director’s intention is to transmit the circularity, one of the great maxims of the Taoist philosophy, applied to the history of humanity or, more specifically, the history of Japan in the last century. The plot plunges us into a kind of looping spiral, which brings back to a whole process of disturbing and somehow random, although vicious and inevitable transformations. The sense of fatality and uncertainty follows us throughout the story. On the one hand, the characters tell us how the destruction of Tokyo was achieved in 1989. On the other, in 2019 we have a repetition of the same mistakes, which lead to exactly the same point of self-destruction, leaving us at the dawn of a new and uncertain beginning of everything. Despite having re-started the cycle, after the reconstruction of […]
